This course of instruction is designed to familiarize the student with shooting techniques in low or diminished lighting conditions. Students must have a current CCW permit or have attended the SGC Advanced Pistol course (or equivalent).

Whether dealing with domestic, building, or outdoor scenarios, this course covers the essentials of light equipment selection for hand-held light sources, and techniques for effective search, navigation, target identification, and engagement of potential threats. This is NOT a course for weapons mounted light systems.


CCW holders with Advanced Pistol Certification

This is an advanced level course. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, fundamental marksmanship skills and demonstrate safely working from a holster.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from the course. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline:

The human eye and how it works in low light
Movement in low light
Selection of support equipment used in low light (discussions about flashlights vs weapon mounted lights, night sites and more)
Alternative uses for the flashlight – Control with light!
Survival techniques with or without an alternative light source
Dry and live fire drills utilizing tactical lights and alternative light techniques

Required Equipment:

Full-sized or Compact Pistol (no subcompact pistols allowed for this class) in one of the following calibers: .380, 9MM, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP (no other calibers allowed)
3 magazines minimum
Belt mounted, dominant side concealment holster or duty rig
Magazine/ammunition pouches
Handheld flashlight with pocket clip
Sturdy Belt at least 1.5” wide
Concealment jacket or vest (optional)
Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
Casual, comfortable civilian clothing suitable for training (unless training in duty uniform)
Protective eyewear
Active noise reduction hearing protection preferred
Knee Pads (optional)


*non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required
Steel Jacket or reloaded ammo is not allowed
