Upon completion of the NRA Certified RSO course, you will gain the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe range shooting activities and range operations.

8-Hour Class


Students will learn the roles and responsibilities of an RSO, Range Standard Operating Procedures and rules, range inspection points, range briefings, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions. There will be no range work for this course, therefore, no firearms will be required. The NRA RSO book will be provided to you and this course will have an open book test. This course is required to become NRA Range Safety Officer Instructor.



Course Outline:

This classes will cover the fundamentals of firearms safety, marksmanship and California Laws on safe storage, transportation and other firearms laws, including:

Safe use and handling of firearms
Locking devices and techniques for firearms to prevent unauthorized gun access
Potential dangers (penetration, ricochet, misidentification, accidental discharges, etc.)
Components and operation of modern pistols, revolvers, all types of rifles and black powder
Proper range procedures
Proper and required safety briefings
Emergency Protocols
Medical Requirements
Writing and using S.O.P.’s
Open book final exam
